Film Studies: The Matrix (5 WEEKS)
Get ready for "Matrix: Reloaded" with this five-week class that will look at
the cinematic sensation with discussions on the art, special effects,
philosophy, martial arts and crew. Watch "Matrix" in class then on the last
day watch "Reloaded."
Understanding Film (1 SESSION)
This five-hour workshop will demonstrate how a film goes from script to
screen. Discussion also will include genre, directors and production crew.
Saturday Matinee with Julien R. Fielding
Learn how to "read" a film in this Saturday workshop. Meet at Cinema Center,
2828 S. 82nd Street to watch a movie then afterwards meet for an in-depth
discussion with writer and reviewer Julien R. Fielding. It's a surefire way
to enhance your movie-going experience. Class will meet at the Westside
Community Education Center, 3534 S 108th Street, following the movie.
Tuition does not include the cost of the movie.
Freelance Writing for Fun and Profit (1 SESSION)
Have you ever thought of selling your written work to a magazine or newspaper? Come join us for an informative
look on how you can be a freelance writer. In the first class you will learn how to tailor your ideas to a suitable
market and how to sell your ideas through the query letter. You've submitted your query letter and it's accepted.
What's next. During the second session we'll look at how to craft your article. We'll explore how to conduct research,
how to interview and pull it all together. This course is taught by Julien R. Fielding, she has been a freelance writer
for four years, contributing features and reviews to a number of local publications, including "The Reader."
How to Be a Better Writer (1 SESSION/OPTIONAL BOOK $6.99)
Whether you're writing a letter or crafting a research paper writing skills are critical. In this three-hour workshop,
students will review grammar, punctuation and sentence structure to become a better communicator.
Eastern Religion in a Nutshell (3 WEEKS)
In this three-week session, students will explore Buddhism, Hinduism and Sikhism as well as some of the other
religious traditions from the East.
Exploring Yorkshire (1 SESSION/$1 LAB FEE/NO DISCOUNT)
Come and see that England can be much more than London! In this four-hour session, students will learn about
the historically interesting and scenically stunning North, with discussion and slides of the Yorkshire coast, moors,
cities and Dales. Tea and biscuits will be served. $1.00 lab fee.
